Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you and your family had a good Easter break. Thank you for all your kind comments concerning the class performances. We were very proud of the children for their super singing and ‘acting’, but also especially their independence and enthusiasm. There was a real ‘buzz’ in class after they had performed to you.

We are really looking forward to the whole school trip to Marwell Zoo. The trip will enhance and supplement class work. There will be more details to follow shortly.

Our learning theme for the first half of this term is ‘Push Me, Pull Me’ and for the second half of term it is ‘What a Wonderful World’. A curriculum overview can be viewed on our website.

During this term we will continue to send home spellings, linked to our phonics work and the Year 1 expected spelling words, for the children to learn. Rather than ‘testing’ the children we will continue to be looking out for correct spellings in their writing. We will also continue to send home reading comprehension, writing or maths homework and also the ‘new’ list of real and nonsense words to read with your child each week. Our main focus will be applying our phonic knowledge in reading and instantly recognising when two or three letters make one sound, eg ai in rain, igh in night, cl in clap. Your support in practising these skills at home is invaluable and evident in the children’s class work. A very big ‘thank you!’

P. E. continues to be on a Monday and Tuesday for all Year 1 classes. Library day for 1M, 1R and 1PB continue to be on a Wednesday

Please could we remind you to ensure that your child’s P.E. kit is in school at all times and that for health and safety reasons, long hair should be tied back and earrings removed or taped over. Please could you check that your child’s plimsolls still fit them as with the warmer weather this term we will be doing outdoor games work.

Hopefully the warmer weather will soon be here so, with this in mind, could we please request that all sun hats and other items of summer clothing are named. Throughout the summer a named water bottle is invaluable as the children will be encouraged to drink plenty and refill them through the day if necessary. Thank you.

Thank you, as ever, for your continuing support.
