Dear Parents,

The children have been in school for a term now and as we start this new term we would like to say a very big thank you to all those parents who have encouraged greater independence in their children by saying goodbye at the door. Remember, there are always ladies at the door, pen at the ready, to take any messages, or pop in at the end of the day if you need a chat with your class teacher.

Some children are still struggling with buttons and zips so we would appreciate continued practice with you at home.

Clicking the Curriculum link above will take you to  a brief outline of the proposed curriculum for the term which we hope will be of interest to you.

The maths and literacy homework will continue to be displayed on the Year R window. During our Bob the Builder topic, we will be introducing some fun activities to be completed at home.

The following are a list of ideas which you may also like to use as ‘homework’ to support this term in school.

 • Practice writing both their names with correct use of upper and lower case letters, e.g. Simon Smith.

• Board games, i.e. Snakes and Ladders, to practice counting on from a number or space.

• Money – to recognise coins up to 20 pence on sight.

• Painting – if you have paints available. (Not on walls or carpets!)

• People at Work. Talk about the jobs and work done by family members and friends.

• Time – to know the days of the week in order

• Look at countries in travel brochures and atlases

• Drawing pictures and colouring them in carefully, using a variety of colours (good old fashioned colouring-in books are ideal!)

Thank you to all those parents who ensure that their child has his/her book bag and its entire contents in school daily. Thank you also to those parents who always write a note in the Home/School Reading liaison book. We really appreciate this feedback even if it is just an initial to say you’ve done your reading or flashcards.

And finally some memory joggers – as last term

Library days (library books only need to be in book bags on these days) Rec R - Thursday, Rec S– Tuesday, Rec C/W – Monday PE is on Wednesday & Thursday– please could you ensure all clothing is named, hair is tied back and earrings are out and they are easy clothes for changing.

With many thanks for all your continuing co-operation and support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Russell Miss Sharp Mrs Watkinson and Mrs Cruttenden
